solo show ‘Inflorescence’ October 2022
INFLORESCENCE comes from the Latin word, ‘inflorescere’ which means to flower, or begin to flower.
Simple intuition is how each piece starts. Simple intuition and a circle. An arc. Unbroken. Dappled in light. Water-tinted colours woven into patters and shapes. Melodic vibrations veiled in transparency. Spatial. Unspoiled. One piece comes to life in a gesture of fire and frenzy. Another, with delicate and deliberate attention. Everything begins to flower...Inflorescence.
The works of artist Allison Rietta is strongly influenced by spirituality, nature and architecture. Primarily abstract, her work has led her to explore sacred—or mystic geometry—tapping into the magic of imagination and the sub-conscious mind. Textures, colours, and the relationship between shapes and forms is what guides her intuition most.
Born in 1969, Rietta grew up in Canada, where she studied from 1989 to 1991 at the Ontario College of Art. In 2005, she moved to Rome, Italy, then to London, England where she worked as a creative director for various design agencies. She moved back to Canada in 2010 and founded her design studio, Diagonal, which she continues to run, alongside her art studio. Today, she is a practising artist working mainly in watercolours, acrylics and other mixed media.
This is Allison Rietta’s first solo exhibit, held at Imagefoundry in Toronto’s west end. The exhibit runs until 29 October, 2021 and showcases four of Rietta’s recent collections: Mystic Geometry, Aura, Abstract 02 and Collage 01.
