‘Tone in Trees’ was created last March in Finland during Allison Rietta’s four-week artist residency at the Arteles Creative Center, in a rural countryside surrounded by trees, birds, frozen lakes, snow trails and wood-burning smells. This piece was named as an homage to her morning walks in the forest, where she stood for long periods of time, taking it all in. It wasn’t just the visuals, that intrigued Rietta, but the sounds she heard when she stood silently with her eyes closed. It was the sound of each tone in the trees that sparked her imagination and brought her back to the tones of her sound bowls when practising sound healing. For Rietta, there was a deep connection between the two, and greatly inspired this painting through composition, colours, and movements.
